Visual Identity Design
Inspired by my favourite noodle place, the concept for Glass Noodle House was born. As a homage to Taste of Home, a noodle place in Wellington city, I created a brand concept based on my favourite dish there which features glass noodles – a thick transparent noodle made from mung beans.
The concept plays with taking ‘glass noodles’ literally, using a recurring motif of transparent squiggles to visually evoke noodles made of actual glass.
The Mission
For this project, I gave myself the imagined client of someone with a strong love for traditional noodle practices, wanting to start up a small business selling only glass noodle dishes. Never mind how niche or practical that might be – my imaginary client was in it for the passion!
The Solution
The solution focused on a modern and stylish visual identity centered on the glass noodle. The visual style plays on some current trends – not something I would do for a live client as trends fall out of fashion quite quickly, and therefore don’t last well. But my imaginary client was ok with it (the stakes are pretty low when the brand and client don’t actually exist).
The Result
Playing with a contemporary take on some Y2K nostalgia elements, the result uses a futuristic-looking typeface for the copy, and a bold, punchy font for the Korean logo. It also includes a gradient of cool blues and greens to highlight the transparency and a grainy texture effect to contrast the smoothness of the noodle.
